Tbilisi Fashion Week 2015 – Part 1

Tbilisi Fashion Week 2015 – Part 1 1200 400 Galia Brener

Last month, I was delighted to get an email from a beautiful friend of mine, Keti Bochorishvili, who is the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia. She told me that Tbilisi was having a fashion week and wanted me to be part of it. I was very honored to get such a lovely invitation and of course I agreed without hesitation! I was really excited because I heard so many positive things about the Georgian culture, food and traditions. What I was also really looking forward to was seeing the fashion style designed and worn there.

My flight was very pleasant and I got a chance to taste my first Georgian meal. I knew right away that I would love their food! (I will write a separate article about my cultural experience). Upon landing, I was greeted by a woman with sensual curves and shiny long black hair. I noticed right away that the Georgian women are very warm, friendly and beautiful. She brought me to my driver and they took me to the hotel, directly in the center of Tbilisi. I checked in and made my way straight to the spa. I wanted to relax after my long flight and look fresh and beautiful for the first day of the Tbilisi fashion week! I was pleasantly surprised to see that the hotel was stocked with Aromatherapy Associates – one of my favorite beauty brands. I love their lip balm because it heals my extremely dry lips within 2 days! I put on my favorite red bikini, jumped into the pool and did a few laps. After relaxing to the point of no return, I went early to bed, excited like a little girl before the first day of school.

I was greeted by the beautiful Natia Jguburia, who is the general manager of the Tbilisi Fashion Week. Together with the Georgian National Tourism Administration, they made it possible for me to be there and see their lovely country. Natia and I got along very well and bonded quite quickly. Along with her came Elene Rakviashvili, a stunning Georgian artist, who was to be our tour guide for the entire week. Elene and I also got on very well, and had many moments of fun, joy and laughter throughout the week. We were a small group of bloggers and photographers, including Daria Shapovalova – creative director of Mercedes-Benz Kiev Fashion Days and Gianni Pucci – photographer for Vogue Italia.

The first stop was the press conference at the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the public and the gorgeous Tako Chkheidze – who is the founder of the Tbilisi Fashion Week (TFW). The board members spoke a bit about the event, then we introduced ourselves and gave some TV interviews. After the conference ended, the countdown started and it was only a few hours away from the opening of the TFW. We went back to change at the hotel, and I opted to be completely clad in black. For the first evening, I chose an a-line black mini dress covered with sequence, which I got at my friend – Yulia Mettier’s Dress Affairs boutique in Frankfurt. I topped it off with my favorite black Versace leather jacket. I combined the look with combat-style boots with a 12cm heel from Jimmy Choo and my favorite Chanel Ombre Minaudiere bag in black and white. Those who know me, know my love for the black rock-chic look. My fashion rule is simple and easy: black when it’s cold, colors when it’s warm.

The venue of the TFW was very cool! It was a mall building still in construction directly at the Rose Revolution Square. We arrived a bit earlier and explored the location. There was a big hall attached, which exhibited some design pieces of upcoming and well-know exiting Georgian designers. I especially fell in love with the leather cuff with a 3D molded face on it from Chubika – a very creative designer that also produces funky hats without the top part. (Photo of cuff is below the article). Slowly the people were gathering, and the excitement was growing. I was pleased to see that many people were wearing black, not just myself. I later found out that the color black is very beloved for clothing in Georgia.

In the foyer, there were many interesting types. One could see that the Georgian people had a very good fashion sense and many unique outfits were to be seen. I was permanently looking from left to right, like a cat keeping track of a tennis match. The women were very feminine and were not afraid to express that. I really liked the bold styles and impressions! It felt like the foyer was getting smaller and smaller, and the crowd was getting larger and louder by the second. Everyone was ready to start off the fashion week. It was time! Natia took my hand, and we followed Tako upstairs to the runway. We were seated at the front row and given gift bags full of makeup to remind us of this fabulous evening.

The rest of the people came upstairs and found their places. Before the show started, they were playing “Crazy” by Ornette – a song that I fell in love with in Ibiza a few years ago. The moment felt right and I knew that it would be an unforgettable week. The lights suddenly dimmed, the bass dropped, my heart started beating faster, and two Matériel models walked slowly out. It was like a scene from the Matrix. The first word that came out of my mouth was a loud: “Wow!…..”

To be continued…

Bäppi La Belle in: ‘ne Dame werd’ ich nie

Bäppi La Belle in: ‘ne Dame werd’ ich nie 1200 400 Galia Brener

A week ago I had the pleasure to see Frankfurt’s very own Super-Funny-Man Bäppi La Belle in his show: ‘ne Dame werd’ ich nie. I was excited because every single one of his shows are always different and very funny, and this one didn’t fail to fulfill my expectations! We were greeted by the tall actor himself, in his legendary green in-between-the-show robe, and his sweet energetic dog Ramses, who has his own Facebook page.

We were the last ones to arrive and quickly made our way to the seats, observing how happy and excited everyone was for the show to start. Bäppi is quite unique because not only is he an actor, but he’s also a singer, comedian, entertainer, choreographer and dance teacher as well. He even has his own dance academy – talk about a talented guy! The lights dimmed, the mood was set, the curtains opened and the piano player came out. After some minutes, Bäppi La Belle made his way onto the stage and everyone was screaming and cheering for him. He is clearly very beloved by his fans. This show was different because it was only Bäppi and the very skilled pianist – Gregori Dörr – on stage. So the pressure was on both gentlemen to entertain and conduct the entire show by themselves. However, knowing Bäppi and the magic that he can do, it was no surprise that it was a big success! They kept the audience on their toes, making them laugh and sing. There was even a lady two rows behind me that was laughing so hard and loud that she had tears spraying out of her eyes.

The hilarious show ‘ne Dame werd’ ich nie took place at Bäppi’s own Theatrallalla, located at the Friedberger Landstraße 296 in Frankfurt. As usual, the show was filled with amusing Frankfurterisch and Hessisch word jokes, mostly aimed at the not-so-dearly-beloved neighbor town Offenbach. Even myself as a Canadian, I understood every single joke and almost fell of the chair a few times due to laugh attacks. Many other jokes were made and worked their way into songs from artists such as Hildegard Knef, Zarah Leander and Helene Fischer. His rendition of the “Atmenlos Durch die Nacht” song was hysterical and I couldn’t stop laughing until my stomach muscles hurt so much! Also musical hits from Abba and co. were used in live versions as part of his funny act. I don’t want to give away too much from the show, so the best thing is to go and see it live for yourself. You are guaranteed a good laugh for over 3 hours!

As the show was coming to an end, nobody wanted to leave. It was well over 11pm, and the entire audience was cheering for a long encore. Bäppi was of course delighted and entertained us with a few more enchanting songs. At the end, the audience made its way to the foyer of the theater to have a glass of Ebbelwoi. What I really like about our Bäppi is that even though he’s well known, he is still very down-to-earth and humble. After the show, he took his time to personally thank his guests and talk to them individually as well. He answered everyone’s curious questions and had a glass of Sekt with us. Ramses the little star Maltese was jumping up and down and doing tricks for us. I fell in love with the little dog and wanted to take him secretly home without Bäppi noticing. It was time to bid our farewell and ride off into the dark Frankfurt night. We were there with a motorcycle and I was singing his songs underneath my helmet as we rode off. What a funny and entertaining evening at the Theatrallalla!

Show info: ‘ne Dame werd’ ich nie will be shown until the 31st of December 2015, so make sure to plan some special nights there with family and friends. Other shows that are coming up this year are: Die kleine Geisha, Sissi, The Fat Pack, The Fat Pack Goes Christmas and Verliebt – Verlobt – Verheiratet. I will definitely be attending all shows because each one is always unique and different, and knowing the wild and funny Bäppi, you never know what to expect!

Beauty Village – Day Spa

Beauty Village – Day Spa 1200 400 Galia Brener

Last week, I was delighted to find out that finally there is a proper day spa around the Frankfurt area. This concept, which is quite popular back home in North America, has been missing here, but finally the time has arrived! My friend Ioana Andrei informed me of this fabulous place, and being the curious cat that I am, we set out together to have a look at this beautiful creation by Ljudmila Spomer.

The idyllic drive to the Beauty Village was already the beginning of the relaxation process. The greenery all around us represented leaving the city and stress behind. When we arrived at the Beauty Village, we were greeted by the beautiful Ljudmila Spomer with a bright warm smile. She gave us delicious healthy smoothies and tapas to start the tour of her lovely 600 square meter day spa. What I noticed right away was the wall display of her amazing products in the reception area. I was very pleasantly surprised to see the wall full of Peter Thomas Roth products. I love their CC cream, and usually order it online from the states, which includes a very pricy overseas shipment fee. But now I finally have a place to buy my PTR CC cream here. Thank you Beauty Village!

Just by looking at Ljudmila’s skin and body, I could tell that this lady definitely knew what she was doing. She looked flawless! She started off by showing us the top floor. Each guests receives a welcome smoothie drink and that’s where the face magic begins! After a facial, one can get the Meso Laser Premium therapy, which injects hyaluronic, vitamins and nutrients into the skin with a laser. Or the new JetPeel therapy, which works 4,5mm underneath the skin with special ingredients such as salt, vitamin B, vitamin A+E, hyaluronic and more. They also have a new style of Botox injections that gives you the natural look and allows movement and mimic to stay on the face. No more plastic-doll face, welcome to Botox 2.0 my dears! Ljudmila said that her therapies are the perfect preparation before and after plastic surgeries, to allow the skin to be fresh and clean for a proper start and healing treatment after. The treatments are cosmetic, esthetic and medicinal. The manicure and pedicure areas are also located on the top floor. There are peelings and masks, even for very dry feet. Along with gel nails, vinylux, lash extensions, lash lifts, permanent make-up, waxing and more.

Next, Ljudmila took us to the downstairs area. Here is where the deeper relaxation takes place. Along with a state of the art bio dry sauna (up to 100 degrees), bar and lounge area, one can eat, drink – Champagne as well, and shop as long as the heart desires. There is no entrance fee like at other spas. At the Village, you can book packages such as the “Business Lady Time”, “Gala”, and even for the guys: “Mann-O-Mann”, “Detox” – including spa time, facials, manicure, pedicure, Meso and JetPeel treatments, hair, makeup, face and body peeling, hyaluronic, laser therapy, Botox and more. Wellness snacks, smoothies and drinks are free on the house and are served anytime you are hungry – now that’s what I call amazing service! A bride can also book her beauty preparations here, which start one month before the wedding. Beauty Village also offers permanent hair removal sessions with the newest state of the art machine Alma Laser. Summer is coming, so why not start getting rid of that annoying hair once and for all. The day spa also offers rentals for large seminar rooms and includes a cheerful, colorful child-care area. I really loved the boutique inside as well, where you can buy clothing, shoes and accessories from beloved brands such as Michael Kors, Love Moschino, Roccobarocco, Anna Ritan and more. Also a hand picked collection by Ljudmila herself from up and coming designers such as Alexander Pavlov. (The photo of me in the red dress is a beautiful Pavlov creation.)

Ljudmila Spomer is very proud to call her Beauty Village – Day Spa a sanctuary for relaxation. In order to fully relax, enjoy and let go of the stress, one must be alone in a quiet surrounding or with the ones they love. The day spa allows you to book for yourself alone in complete privacy or with a partner, quality mother-daughter time, birthday party, bat mitzvah, bridal shower, bachelorette party or any other special occasion. It is a place of peace and relaxation to come enjoy, unwind and let yourself be free of worries. The best part is that you can see immediate results after just one treatment.

The opening event is on Saturday May 30th between 12-4pm. You are invited to join the event and experience a free test treatment, delicious Sekt drinks and delicacies for your taste buds, a day spa tour, skin diagnostics and consultation from the experts. I will be there as well, along with Ioana Andrei of Minemedia International, who is in charge of this glamorous event and opening. Ms. Andrei is the mastermind behind many chic events in Frankfurt, and when it comes to PR, she knows best what people like and want, so I am sure that it will be one hell of an opening, never to be forgotten! I am already very excited about next week!

See you there dear friends and readers!

Hugs,

Gali

Tobias Grau Showroom Opening – 13.04.2015

Tobias Grau Showroom Opening – 13.04.2015 1200 400 Galia Brener

Yet another fabulous opening party took place last night in Frankfurt, at the Tobias Grau showroom, located at the Katzenpforte/Bleichstraße. Architects, designers, actors, bloggers, media and advertising people gathered yesterday to welcome the new era of futuristic posh lighting into our trendy little cosmopolitan city. The brains behind the progressive concept are Hamburg natives, Tobias Grau and his wife Franziska Grau.

They both welcomed their guests into their brand new 2-floor showroom, with a warm smile on their faces. One could see the pride and honor in their wonderful accomplishment. I’m a big fan of futuristic light design, but what caught my eye right away was Franziska’s beautiful red dress! No wonder Mr. Grau creates amazing pieces, with such a bright and wonderful wife by his side! It was the first time that I met the Grau-power-couple, and I have to say that I was positively impressed by their friendliness, warmth and creativity.

One could not help but notice the incredible light pieces hanging allover the showroom. Some were minimalistic and some extravagant, yet all were unforgettable. What’s even more fascinating is that the Bill table lamp was used in the James Bond 007 Skyfall movie. It’s definitely nice to know that such an International talent and creative brand like Tobias Grau can be found directly in the city center of Frankfurt!

As we continued our light tour, we were greeted by Daniel Tobias Etzel of the WAOH agency, who helped with the event and did a wonderful job once again with the invitations and organization. The catering for the opening was impeccable, and their lovely team was walking around, offering the guests delicacies to enjoy with a glass of cold wine.

I was quite lucky that evening because my outfit was given to me by my good friend Yulia Mettier, owner of the Dress Affairs boutique on the Berger Strasse. Therefore, I had the chance to make my appearance in an individual and edgy style, chosen personally by Yulia.

The beautiful lounge and house beats that evening were flowing from the creative hands of DJ Jondal, who is a producer, global music collector and corporate sound designer, with a very unique voice. I looked around and saw people swaying to his rhythm, and it was nice to run into a few designers and architects that I have not seen in a while. Everyone were saying how chic and fun the event is! Everyone enjoyed themselves immensely, and smiles could be seen everywhere. The people were also saying how impressed they are with Mr. Grau’s amazing designs, and I couldn’t agree more! I am definitely getting a lamp for my office. All in all, it was a wonderful, fun, entertaining, delicious, chic and cool event in Frankfurt.

S.Pellegrino and Vogue Italia 2015

S.Pellegrino and Vogue Italia 2015 1200 944 Galia Brener

I was having a business lunch today at a very cute Italian restaurant in Frankfurt, when something interesting caught my eye. The green S.Pellegrino bottle on out table had a unique design on it, which is normally not there. Upon closer examination, I saw their traditional red 5-point star, surrounded with illustrated figures of women eating, drinking and carrying a breadbasket with baguette in it. How lovely and intriguing.

So of course being the curious cat that I am, I had to investigate further. Apparently this is a special edition bottle that is dedicated to Vogue Italia. What a wonderful cooperation: Fashion meets health. But wait, it gets even better!

S.Pellegrino is hosting a competition called the “S.pellegrino Young Chef 2015” on June 25-26th, in Milano, during the Expo. For this reason, Vogue Italia has gone into this wonderful cooperation, and both will give a chance for young talented chefs and designers from all over the world to show their magic and win the grand title. Their challenge is to come together and make a wonderful composition of taste, art and fashion. Wow what a great chance for young people to show what they’re made of – a true once in a life-time, dream chance!

The most thrilling part of the event – the finalists selection – will be done by a group of well-known food connoisseurs, and the young fashion talents will be chosen by the editorial staff of Vogue Italia themselves. That will be quite a dramatic event. I am really looking forward to that.

Bravo to both S.Pellegrino & Vogue Italia for supporting and giving young people a chance to achieve success and show their unique talent worldwide! I pay great respect to you and support your kindness.
