I have been looking forward to this cool pop up event ever since the mysterious envelope arrived! Starting tonight, the Glenmorangie Unseen Bar will only be there for 3 full days. Now that’s what I call pop up at its finest. Appearing and disappearing, like a mythical vision in the night, on the hunt for the perfect whisky!

My adventure started yesterday when I checked into The Flushing Meadows, a cool designer boutique hotel, only a few steps away from the venue. Every room in the hotel is designed differently, and I got the romantic pink room for this night. I felt like a princess as I jumped onto the 4-poster bed and glanced up at the very high loft ceilings. I then hung up my 5-layered black tutu, looked around with a smile on my face, and instantly knew that it will be an amazing evening!

As we arrived at the event, the first things that caught my eye were the huge giraffe standing in the middle of the room, the fancy Glenmorangie bottles and the cool wooden sunglasses in their funky round displays. Literally a sight that can be found in a dream or a Dali painting! We were greeted by the handsome duo Jörg Bernicken and Andreas Haumesser, who were the masterminds behind this fabulous evening. They gave us a warm welcome and led the way to the bar in the mysterious back room.

The walls were painted black, the lights were dim, enticing, and the DJ was spinning his hypnotic beats. The spicy fragrance of Glenmorangie was pulling at us, like a seductive woman’s fingers, calling and beckoning us to the dark bar. We asked the bartender to surprise us. He replied that his mission was to make us happy. This evening was getting better and better by the minute. He created two fantasies for us. One was a sweet blend of the whisky with a fresh peach pulp. The other was a whisky sour with a dried fruit on top, both served in the style of the 19th century, with amazing attention to details. The drinks tasted even better than they looked. I am usually a wine and champagne lover – like many women are – but I have to say that I was positively astonished by Glenmorangie, a brand established in 1843. The exquisite taste of the bold whisky made its way from my tongue, around my mouth and down my throat. It warmed me up, from the inside out and put a smile on my face. Such a rich whisky, with multiple layers and a complex presence on my taste buds.  I looked around the room and was fascinated by the chic women with the golden drinks in their hands. There is something very sensual about women drinking whisky!

We went back to the front room, curious to find out more about the wood sunglasses. The brand is called Finlay & Co., created by Dane Butler, Sam Lawson Johnston, David Lochhead and Tom Stannard. At 399,00 € a pair, Finlay & Co. and Glenmorangie, are two British brands for whom wood is a central part of their story. The cool thing is that the frame of the glasses is actually produced from the same cask where the Glenmorangie whisky is stored. It’s like giving the wood cask a second life! Environmentally friendly recycling and fashion at it’s best.

All of a sudden a beautiful voice came from the speakers and seemed to penetrate louder into the room. As I turned around, I saw where it was coming from! The gorgeous Marzenka was dancing around the party with a mic in her hand, while singing over the DJ’s tracks. Simply wow! This is definitely a great talent to discover. We were in awe of her velvety voice pouring out magic and sheer power. It sounded as smooth as the hint of vanilla in the fine whisky that tantalized our taste buds. This flavour was accompanied by delicious catering, specializing in creams with truffles and exotic spices.

I have to say that we were all quite impressed by the event. The lovely guests were all happy, chatting with each other energetically into the late night hours. After tasting all of the various Glenmorangie blends and ranges, dancing, meeting new people, flirting, eating, trying on the sunglasses with the giraffe and attempting to understand the Bavarian dialect, it was time to go back to my pink room, slip on my pink sleeping dress and float away into my sweet dreams.

The Glenmorangie Unseen Pop Up Bar is only there for 3 days in Munich. My suggestion would be to grab a friend, go there, do some whisky tasting, try on the cool wood sunglasses and have a great time!

One of the things I love most about Frankfurt is the amazing Kleinmarkthalle. For those who don’t know what this is, it’s a public indoor market with various food, drinks and flower vendors. Some stands are exotic and international, and some are locals from the Hessen area in Germany.

It’s a wonderful traditional that we have here in Frankfurt. We like to grab our friends and come for a glass of wine at the Kleinmarkthalle on a Saturday afternoon. Here you can find people from many walks of life, tasting delicious wines from local wineries and chatting about life and the world. It’s a great place to talk to the person standing beside you, or smile at someone across the wine stand. The atmosphere is one of pleasure and relaxation.

I always recommend the Kleinmarkthalle to my friends on a Saturday as the perfect place to meet new people, and maybe even spark up a conversation with a potential dating partner. Since the people are quite relaxed here, it’s a perfect place to flirt. My favorite days are when the sun shines, directly on people’s faces and also reflects on the full wine glasses. I love it there in the summer time, as well as on the cold but dry winter days.

The wine tasting and drinking happens outside and on the top terrace area, whereas the delicious food shopping takes place inside the Kleinmarkthalle itself. Sometimes I come alone here, and walk slowly isle after isle, discovering all of the unfamiliar food and drinks. This is like therapy for the eyes and heart. It’s like drifting away to a culinary world, where everyone is on the same mission to find the perfect flavor to tease and tempt their taste buds! This is also a great place to buy or create that unforgettable bouquet of flowers for yourself and loved ones.

Last Saturday I discovered the best thing ever! I am addicted to fresh coconut water, and I found a stand that sells fresh coconuts. They open up the nut for you, and you can drink it directly there or take it home. As I was walking around like an alien with my huge coconut, I felt a bit misplaced amongst the wine lovers. But it was detox week for me, so it was the perfect drink to compliment my diet. I even took the coconut home and ate the inside part the next day.

I have to say that all the relaxing sounds, flavors and colors make me appreciate how lucky I am to be able to enjoy this on the weekends. I bought a few healthy Mediterranean tapas to take home with me. Included were green olives, Taramasalata, artichokes, Aioli, octopus salad, sun dried tomatoes, pickles and a fresh loaf of sourdough bread.

As I left the Kleinmarkthalle, I looked around at the beautifully blinding sun, and was happy to see all of the people mingling outside, sipping their Riesling, flirting and enjoying the sun! This is definitely a must see in Frankfurt on a Saturday afternoon.

I think that Love is female. She’s a bitchy princess that does what she wants, when she wants it, and how she wants it. She doesn’t like to play fair and never follows any rules. She can be extremely selfish and not give a damn about anyone else but herself. Until this day, no one was able to create a formula on how to control this wild vamp – Lady Love. She does only what she wants and nobody can force her… especially not to stay where she doesn’t want to!

Lady Love did not visit my good friend, Heather Klein, when she met a guy a few months ago. It was a warm summer afternoon, and we all went out with the mission of finding delicious food and exotic drinks. Spontaneously a friend had tickets to a food tasting event, and of course, I couldn’t resist. Delicious food is my huge passion! We dressed up casually, and made our way into our adventurous Saturday, not knowing what shall await us. We arrived, and the first thing that caught my eyes and nose were the delicious dry-aged steaks being prepared on the grill. After a few cocktails, I saw Heather speaking to a guy she just met. He was about 1,80 meters tall, had thick dark hair, and friendly bright eyes. He seemed very charming and both enjoyed the conversation.

Heather started dating the guy, and during the first few weeks, they spent a lot of time together. She told me that everything was going well. However, in the weeks that followed, I could see that Heather was losing her enthusiasm about him. She told me that “the spark” was not there – there was no magic. I could understand her, however from the things that I heard about him, he was a good catch. He was a caring, intelligent, respectful gentleman, came from a good family background, had a stable job, and was open for a serious commitment. He was warm and cuddly, yet she was bored with him. She agreed to give it a few more weeks and see what happened, but the feelings did not develop.

Looking at it the other way around, it is quite painful when you are falling in love and the other person does not feel the same way. I have been there before myself and it’s awful! You try and try, and it just doesn’t work out how you want it to. It makes you doubt yourself, and feel very insecure. It sometimes goes as far as making you change, and not be yourself, just so that s/he might like you more.

Here are some signs that you might be dating the wrong person:

1: You are the one that is always giving and s/he is taking.

2: You make all of the plans, all the time – they make no effort.

3: You are unsure about how s/he feels about you, therefore you ask often for reassurance.

4: Your partner does not mention a future together.

5: You are mostly the one that calls, writes and contacts him/her.

6: You feel that you’re the only one working on the relationship. You cannot force it, because both must be willing to work on it.

7: You are using guilt and manipulation for making them stay. This is a miserable feeling, because you are ready to hurt yourself emotionally and physically just to keep them in your life.

8: Even though s/he keeps breaking your trust over and over again, you forgive them.

9: You have unhealthy feelings of extreme jealously and intense fear of losing your partner.

I ask myself, can love be manipulated? Of course it can be tempered with. But do you really want someone to stay together with you only due to your manipulations? That would mean that they don’t truly love you for you. Love must be genuine from both sides. Unrequited love is extremely painful. My advice would be to let the wrong person go and make yourself available for someone that fits you better. Yes, it will hurt like hell at the beginning, but then you have a chance to meet someone that truly loves you! Wouldn’t that be so wonderful?

I have learned through my experiences that if someone wants to be with you, they will find a way to do so. They will move mountains and swim through an ocean to see you. There will be no excuses of being busy, or sick with a rare disease that he contracted when the aliens abducted him last week and took him to see Yoda. There will be no bullshit. If the feelings are there, you will know and feel it. Let’s be honest, we know when the other person is not feeling the same for us. So why give so much love and attention to someone who doesn’t even feel and appreciate it? Or even worse, to someone who does not want you or your love? Send them back to their hallucinated aliens, pick up your dignity off the ground, and walk proudly into your future. Don’t force what’s not meant to be, and if it is meant to be, it will happen anyways. Sometimes it takes a while to find the right person, but it’s definitely worth the wait, so please be patient and keep the faith.

Tartan Love

Ever since I was a child, I have felt a strange connection and pull to the tartan pattern. As an adult, I have spent many nights fantasizing of a past life, where I was a Scottish princess, wearing a beautiful tartan gown and dancing the night away with a strong, masculine Scottish warrior. Unfortunately I always wake up as the fun part stars, when he begins to readjust his kilt… You now understand why this dream is so tempting – what does the warrior wear underneath his kilt?

Now back to reality, this spring / summer 2016 will see a lot of this fantastic pattern! Vivienne Westwood, one of my favorite designers, featured tartan in her SS16 collection. Everything from dresses, bags and even tartan sunglasses! http://www.viviennewestwood.com/shop/tartan

Many other designers have worked with tartan, such as Burberry, Alexander McQueen, dsquared2, Gucci, and yes, even Chanel! This is a timeless pattern that is beloved by many. It shows class, style, heritage and tradition.

Growing up in the 80s and 90s, I had many pieces with tartan and loved wearing them, while admiring my punk neighbors’ wild lifestyle. This pattern is very adaptable. It can be combined with many different looks. In the photo shooting below, you will see that I combined it with 3 different styles. It can also be worn as a 1-piece dress to the office or on a night out in the town, topped off with black high heels. You can wear tartan to meet your parents-in-law, or go to a punk concert. It is one of the most versatile patterns of our fashion history!

The tartan pattern has a long royal Scottish history behind it. In 1471, the treasurer to King James III purchased tartan cloth for the king and queen. King James V wore tartan whilst hunting in the Highlands in 1538, and King Charles II wore a ribbon of tartan on his coat at his wedding in 1662.1

Tartan leggings were found on the 198 cm handsome “Cherchen Man”, a 3,000-year-old mummy found in the Taklamakan Desert2. Looks like I am not the only one obsessed with my tartan leggings! The Cherchen Man was obviously a very stylish and modern man, back in his dessert days.

What’s good for royalty is also good for us! So my dears, go out there are get yourself some tartan love!

And for my single ladies, even thought the handsome giants are dead for already 3,000 years, at least we still have our tartans to enjoy this summer! ;-)

Endlich war es Donnerstag – der mit Spannung erwartete Tag der großen Designer-Shopping-Lieferung bei TK Maxx. Ich wusste zwar nicht genau was uns erwartet, aber als wir heute früh im Frankfurter TK Maxx ankamen war klar, dass das ein super Tag wird.

Eigentlich bräuchte ich gar nicht erwähnen, dass unsere Erwartungen mehr als nur übertroffen wurden.

An den Regalen hingen endlose Reihen mit Designer-Konfektionen, die darauf warteten abgehängt, anprobiert, nach Hause genommen und geliebt zu werden! Wir Mädels stürzten sofort auf verschiedenen Wegen los und häuften die erbeuteten Schätze in unsere Einkaufswägelchen.

Da wir bereits eine Stunde vor der offiziellen Ladenöffnung eingeladen wurden war zunächst außer uns niemand jemand da. Das reichte aber schon völlig aus um sofort ein lautes, begeistertes, glückliches Shopping-Chaos auszulösen. Schnäppchenjagd hat irgendetwas an sich, das den Blutdruck hochjagt und Adrenalinschübe auslöst!

Die außergewöhnliche Freundlichkeit des TK Maxx Personals hat mich sehr angenehm beeindruckt. Alle waren gerne bereit uns mit Größen, Farben, verschiedenen Modellen und allgemeinen Fragen weiter zu helfen. Obwohl wir schon so früh da waren begrüßten sie uns mit einem freundlichen Lächeln und waren voller Begeisterung in jeder Art und Weise behilflich. Applaus für ein so großartiges Team!

Wir brauchten volle zwei Stunden um die erste Etage komplett nach Klamotten zu durchkämmen und dabei hatten wir es noch nicht einmal zu den Schuhen im Obergeschoss geschafft! Da ich kleine Füße habe war dann doch noch einiges in Größe 37s für mich übrig. Eine Freundin überraschte mich in einem Moment als ich gerade unter all den Schuhen mitten im Durchgang begraben war. Sie musste derart heftig lachen, dass sie auf mich und den Schuhstapel fiel! Klarer Fall: unser Shopping-Tag war spaßig und voller Abwechslung. Ein herrlich fröhliches Erlebnis unter guten Freunden!

Es gab viele Designer- und Top-Markenartikel zur Auswahl. Dazu viele großartige Dinge für die Bereiche Home, Haustiere und Kinder. Ich war so wunschlos glücklich, alle diese verschiedenen Outfits vom ultra Roter-Teppich-Chic bis hin zum lässigen Casual-City-Style anprobieren zu können. Es gibt wirklich für jeden etwas bei TK Maxx! Dabei ist die Qualität der Stücke sehr gut und die Kollektionen sind up to date.

Bis die neue Saison beginnt werden noch jede weitere Woche neue Designer-Lieferungen eintreffen. Also, schnappe dir eine Freundin und gehe hin bevor alles weg ist!

Shopping Excitement at the TK Maxx in Frankfurt!

 

Thursday has finally arrived and with it came the TK Maxx shopping excitement as well! I was not sure what to expect, but when we arrived in the morning, we knew that this would be a fun and happy day.

Needless to say that it was everything that we expected and more! There were rows after rows of designer clothing hanging on the racks – waiting to be picked up, tried on and adopted to take home and love! Us girls ran our separate ways to start filling our shopping carts with treasures. Since we were invited one hour earlier than the official store opening hours, there were only a few of us in the store, but it was enough to create a loud excited, happy, shopping chaos. There is something about bargain hunting that makes the blood boil and the adrenalin run wild!

I was very pleased to see that the TK Maxx staff is extremely friendly. They were very willing to help out with sizes, colors, models and any general questions. Even though we arrived so early, they greeted us with a warm smile and a happy enthusiasm, always willing to help. The staff was very well informed about all of the items available in the store, and were happy to assist in any way needed. Bravo to such a great team!

It took us 2 hours to completely go through all of the clothing on the first floor, and that was even without the shoes, which were upstairs! I have small feet, so there were many size 37s leftover for me. At one point, one of my friends came over and found me buried underneath all of the shoes in the middle of the isle! She was laughing to hard that she fell on top of me and the pile of shoes! Needless to say, our shopping day was very funny and enjoyable! A really fun and lovely experience to have with good friends!

There were many designer and top brand items to choose from. Many great things for the house, pets and children as well. I was happy to try on many different outfits ranging from ultra red carpet chic, to casual hanging out in the city style. There is really something for everyone at TK Maxx! I was also pleased to see that the quality of the clothing is very good, and the collections are up to date.

There are more designer deliveries coming in every week now before the new season starts. So grab a friend and get there before everything is gone!

Hot Shopping Tip: TK Maxx – big labels delivery this Thursday!

 

Dear friends and readers, I cannot express how utterly excited I am!

A little birdie told me a big secret about what is happening this Thursday.

February 18th will be an amazing day at TK Maxx! They are having a special big delivery of many designer articles coming into all of their stores in Germany. This delivery will include designer clothing for women, men, kids, accessories, home items, shoes, bags and much more.

I don’t know if you are yet familiar with the TK Maxx store concept, but if you are not, then this Thursday is definitely the perfect day to find out! This is a huge store that offers incredible deals. It’s the bargain-hunter’s paradise. There you can find a big offer of well-known designer pieces for a mini fraction of the price. I love going to TK Maxx because it’s the only place to buy designer pieces for up to 60% off (compared to EIA).

Lucky for us fashionistas, this week is when all of the action is happening – just in perfect time for the new spring and summer collections. I’m happy that I live in Frankfurt, because we have a really nice and big TK Maxx here directly in the Nordwest Zentrum shopping mall. However there are many more stores around Germany. I don’t know how many pieces of each item will be delivered, so it is on a first come, first serve basis. I know that we will be there bright and early! ;-)

I also do not know exactly which brands and collections will be delivered, so the delicious surprise is very tempting and exciting!
