LVMH – Glenmorangie Unseen Pop Up Bar in Munich

LVMH – Glenmorangie Unseen Pop Up Bar in Munich 1080 530 Galia Brener

I have been looking forward to this cool pop up event ever since the mysterious envelope arrived! Starting tonight, the Glenmorangie Unseen Bar will only be there for 3 full days. Now that’s what I call pop up at its finest. Appearing and disappearing, like a mythical vision in the night, on the hunt for the perfect whisky!

My adventure started yesterday when I checked into The Flushing Meadows, a cool designer boutique hotel, only a few steps away from the venue. Every room in the hotel is designed differently, and I got the romantic pink room for this night. I felt like a princess as I jumped onto the 4-poster bed and glanced up at the very high loft ceilings. I then hung up my 5-layered black tutu, looked around with a smile on my face, and instantly knew that it will be an amazing evening!

As we arrived at the event, the first things that caught my eye were the huge giraffe standing in the middle of the room, the fancy Glenmorangie bottles and the cool wooden sunglasses in their funky round displays. Literally a sight that can be found in a dream or a Dali painting! We were greeted by the handsome duo Jörg Bernicken and Andreas Haumesser, who were the masterminds behind this fabulous evening. They gave us a warm welcome and led the way to the bar in the mysterious back room.

The walls were painted black, the lights were dim, enticing, and the DJ was spinning his hypnotic beats. The spicy fragrance of Glenmorangie was pulling at us, like a seductive woman’s fingers, calling and beckoning us to the dark bar. We asked the bartender to surprise us. He replied that his mission was to make us happy. This evening was getting better and better by the minute. He created two fantasies for us. One was a sweet blend of the whisky with a fresh peach pulp. The other was a whisky sour with a dried fruit on top, both served in the style of the 19th century, with amazing attention to details. The drinks tasted even better than they looked. I am usually a wine and champagne lover – like many women are – but I have to say that I was positively astonished by Glenmorangie, a brand established in 1843. The exquisite taste of the bold whisky made its way from my tongue, around my mouth and down my throat. It warmed me up, from the inside out and put a smile on my face. Such a rich whisky, with multiple layers and a complex presence on my taste buds.  I looked around the room and was fascinated by the chic women with the golden drinks in their hands. There is something very sensual about women drinking whisky!

We went back to the front room, curious to find out more about the wood sunglasses. The brand is called Finlay & Co., created by Dane Butler, Sam Lawson Johnston, David Lochhead and Tom Stannard. At 399,00 € a pair, Finlay & Co. and Glenmorangie, are two British brands for whom wood is a central part of their story. The cool thing is that the frame of the glasses is actually produced from the same cask where the Glenmorangie whisky is stored. It’s like giving the wood cask a second life! Environmentally friendly recycling and fashion at it’s best.

All of a sudden a beautiful voice came from the speakers and seemed to penetrate louder into the room. As I turned around, I saw where it was coming from! The gorgeous Marzenka was dancing around the party with a mic in her hand, while singing over the DJ’s tracks. Simply wow! This is definitely a great talent to discover. We were in awe of her velvety voice pouring out magic and sheer power. It sounded as smooth as the hint of vanilla in the fine whisky that tantalized our taste buds. This flavour was accompanied by delicious catering, specializing in creams with truffles and exotic spices.

I have to say that we were all quite impressed by the event. The lovely guests were all happy, chatting with each other energetically into the late night hours. After tasting all of the various Glenmorangie blends and ranges, dancing, meeting new people, flirting, eating, trying on the sunglasses with the giraffe and attempting to understand the Bavarian dialect, it was time to go back to my pink room, slip on my pink sleeping dress and float away into my sweet dreams.

The Glenmorangie Unseen Pop Up Bar is only there for 3 days in Munich. My suggestion would be to grab a friend, go there, do some whisky tasting, try on the cool wood sunglasses and have a great time!

Thank you to LUXURIOUS.THINKING., Andreas Haumesser Public Relations and Moët Hennessy for this fabulous event and unforgettable evening!

Have fun and ‪#‎glenmorangieunseen,

Food shopping and flirting paradise at the Kleinmarkthalle

Food shopping and flirting paradise at the Kleinmarkthalle 1080 530 Galia Brener

One of the things I love most about Frankfurt is the amazing Kleinmarkthalle. For those who don’t know what this is, it’s a public indoor market with various food, drinks and flower vendors. Some stands are exotic and international, and some are locals from the Hessen area in Germany.

It’s a wonderful traditional that we have here in Frankfurt. We like to grab our friends and come for a glass of wine at the Kleinmarkthalle on a Saturday afternoon. Here you can find people from many walks of life, tasting delicious wines from local wineries and chatting about life and the world. It’s a great place to talk to the person standing beside you, or smile at someone across the wine stand. The atmosphere is one of pleasure and relaxation.

I always recommend the Kleinmarkthalle to my friends on a Saturday as the perfect place to meet new people, and maybe even spark up a conversation with a potential dating partner. Since the people are quite relaxed here, it’s a perfect place to flirt. My favorite days are when the sun shines, directly on people’s faces and also reflects on the full wine glasses. I love it there in the summer time, as well as on the cold but dry winter days.

The wine tasting and drinking happens outside and on the top terrace area, whereas the delicious food shopping takes place inside the Kleinmarkthalle itself. Sometimes I come alone here, and walk slowly isle after isle, discovering all of the unfamiliar food and drinks. This is like therapy for the eyes and heart. It’s like drifting away to a culinary world, where everyone is on the same mission to find the perfect flavor to tease and tempt their taste buds! This is also a great place to buy or create that unforgettable bouquet of flowers for yourself and loved ones.

Last Saturday I discovered the best thing ever! I am addicted to fresh coconut water, and I found a stand that sells fresh coconuts. They open up the nut for you, and you can drink it directly there or take it home. As I was walking around like an alien with my huge coconut, I felt a bit misplaced amongst the wine lovers. But it was detox week for me, so it was the perfect drink to compliment my diet. I even took the coconut home and ate the inside part the next day.

I have to say that all the relaxing sounds, flavors and colors make me appreciate how lucky I am to be able to enjoy this on the weekends. I bought a few healthy Mediterranean tapas to take home with me. Included were green olives, Taramasalata, artichokes, Aioli, octopus salad, sun dried tomatoes, pickles and a fresh loaf of sourdough bread.

As I left the Kleinmarkthalle, I looked around at the beautifully blinding sun, and was happy to see all of the people mingling outside, sipping their Riesling, flirting and enjoying the sun! This is definitely a must see in Frankfurt on a Saturday afternoon.

I wish you a great start to your week!

Hugs, Gali

Tartan Love

Tartan Love 1080 530 Galia Brener

Ever since I was a child, I have felt a strange connection and pull to the tartan pattern. As an adult, I have spent many nights fantasizing of a past life, where I was a Scottish princess, wearing a beautiful tartan gown and dancing the night away with a strong, masculine Scottish warrior. Unfortunately I always wake up as the fun part stars, when he begins to readjust his kilt… You now understand why this dream is so tempting – what does the warrior wear underneath his kilt?

Now back to reality, this spring / summer 2016 will see a lot of this fantastic pattern! Vivienne Westwood, one of my favorite designers, featured tartan in her SS16 collection. Everything from dresses, bags and even tartan sunglasses! http://www.viviennewestwood.com/shop/tartan

Many other designers have worked with tartan, such as Burberry, Alexander McQueen, dsquared2, Gucci, and yes, even Chanel! This is a timeless pattern that is beloved by many. It shows class, style, heritage and tradition.

Growing up in the 80s and 90s, I had many pieces with tartan and loved wearing them, while admiring my punk neighbors’ wild lifestyle. This pattern is very adaptable. It can be combined with many different looks. In the photo shooting below, you will see that I combined it with 3 different styles. It can also be worn as a 1-piece dress to the office or on a night out in the town, topped off with black high heels. You can wear tartan to meet your parents-in-law, or go to a punk concert. It is one of the most versatile patterns of our fashion history!

The tartan pattern has a long royal Scottish history behind it. In 1471, the treasurer to King James III purchased tartan cloth for the king and queen. King James V wore tartan whilst hunting in the Highlands in 1538, and King Charles II wore a ribbon of tartan on his coat at his wedding in 1662.1

Tartan leggings were found on the 198 cm handsome “Cherchen Man”, a 3,000-year-old mummy found in the Taklamakan Desert2. Looks like I am not the only one obsessed with my tartan leggings! The Cherchen Man was obviously a very stylish and modern man, back in his dessert days.

What’s good for royalty is also good for us! So my dears, go out there are get yourself some tartan love!

And for my single ladies, even thought the handsome giants are dead for already 3,000 years, at least we still have our tartans to enjoy this summer! ;-)

Have a lovely Wednesday!

Hugs,

Your Gali

Over-the-knee boots: Yes, no or maybe?

Over-the-knee boots: Yes, no or maybe? 1200 1600 Galia Brener

If you asked me some years back what I thought about this edgy type of boot, I would answer you with a quick and definite “No way!”

I always identified over-the-knee boots with the Pretty Woman movie – Julia Robert’s infamous working the street outfit, and pulling Richard Gere into her sensual spider web. In other words, I never thought that I could wear such a boot on the streets of old school and classy Europe. Over time I watched carefully as the trend grew and realized that more and more women are jumping onto the over-the-knee boot bandwagon. Slowly these boots were coming out of their red light district image, and making their way into posh offices around the world.

An interesting fact according to Wikipedia is that, “Over-the-knee boots first became popular as riding boots for men in the 15th century, when extra protection was required for the legs when on horseback.” So ladies, these boots are almost as old as the oldest profession in the world.

Pierre Cardin brought the boots into fashion again in 1968, featuring them in his futuristic couture collection. They also made a reappearance every decade after that!

Finally in 2010, Auntie Gali thought to herself, “If it’s good enough for the riders of the 15th century, then it’s good enough for us too!” So I went to try on my first over-the-knee boots. I remember buying my first pair in a small family-owned shop in Florence. I tried them on with a pair of tight skinny jeans and an oversized sweater. I was surprised at how cool they looked and bought them.

Upon my arrival at home a few weeks later, I couldn’t bring myself to wear them. I thought that perhaps I’m too old fashioned after all to wear these screaming boots. And so these sad Italian stallions were locked away in the closet for 6 years! Some might consider that shoe-abuse. And for some like myself, clothing and accessories never get thrown away. I lock them up and they wait patiently for their big day to make a comeback. To be able to see the light again. Such good and devoted shoes – never complained, not even once!

A few months ago, when cleaning the skeletons out of my closet, I found these boots again. I dusted them off tried them on. They fit like a glove. I decided that it was finally time to do the knees. The time has arrived for our relationship to begin. I was then given a lovely pair of Gucci boots as a gift, and added them to my over-the-knee collection.

I must admit that I can only wear this type of boot with a block or thick heel. I could never wear the stiletto version. I would feel like I’m auditioning for the main role in the second part of Pretty Woman. This is not my cup of Earl Gray tea. However, the block heels look pretty damn cool!

So if asked again, would I ever wear over-the-knee boots? My answer after 6 years would be: “Absolutely!” Yes I’m a turtle grandma sometimes and it took me “only” 6 years to jump onto the over-the-knee boot bandwagon. But I’m finally there and enjoying every minute of it!

Outfit ideas:

  1. Lampshading: Means wearing over-the-knee boots with an oversized sweater / dress.
  2. Classy: Little black dress with over-the-knee boots and a cropped tuxedo blazer.
  3. Casual: Skinny jeans with over-the-knee boots and your favorite rock t-shirt.
  4. Gali Style: Chanel-look tweed shorts, over-the-knee boots, turtleneck sweater and fringe scarf.

Have fun wearing your boots my darlings!!

Hugs,

Gali

Outfit of the Day: Color Splash on a Gray Day

Outfit of the Day: Color Splash on a Gray Day 900 1200 Galia Brener

Outfit: sweater: Zara, leggings: Topshop, boots: Bullboxer, vest: Furry, hat: Accessorize, bag: Burberry, gloves: vintage, necklace: Deloa

As I woke up today, I looked out the window and was not sure if it is still night or already morning! I jumped out of the bed and ran to my colors treasure chest and started to dig for a rainbow to brighten up my day! We have arrived at the gray season. Since there is quite a lack of snow this winter, we are only left with various shades of grays. However, do not let that stop you from bringing out your internal sunshine and happiness with bright colors!

A few weeks ago I was asked by the BILD newspaper what I think Frankfurt should improve on, and one of my answers were: That people should wear more colors here. So staying true to my own advice, I have decided to delve into my wardrobe to spice up a dark winter day.

Do not be afraid to mismatch colors! We do not live in a perfect world in a time where everything has to precisely match. We have arrived in a time to explore outside of the edges. Mix and match. Let your creativity and imagination run wild! I even go to the extent of wearing clashing patterns. I believe that 2016 is a perfect time to live boldly and explore your tastes and uniqueness!

Fashion goes in circles. It tends to repeat itself, just like the natural cycles of life. Therefore, bring out the vintage, like I did with the gloves, and combine it with something completely crazy and out of the ordinary. Have no fear to go the extra mile and wear something different. I would suggest to never try to conform and always have your unique touch in everything that you do and wear. Dare to show your passion, desire and make yourself happy!

Star Wars Outfit – Shop the Look

Star Wars Outfit – Shop the Look 1200 400 Galia Brener

Hello dear friends and readers,

Being a child of the 80s, I was really excited about the new Star Wars movie coming out. When I went to the premiere, I decided to go the extra mile and dress up in a Star Wars outfit. I made sure that this outfit can also be worn during the day in a normal atmosphere as well. I did not want to walk around the city looking like a carnival or Halloween victim, so I came up with this simple, yet creative outfit.

I made a shop the look layout for you to recreate this outfit in a nice and affordable way! :-) Enjoy the look my dears!

Please send me photos of you wearing this look. I am very curious what it looks like on you!

Hugs,
Gali

Outfit of the Day special feature: MCM

Outfit of the Day special feature: MCM 803 1200 Galia Brener

As the days grow shorter and the sun doesn’t come out to play as often anymore, I feel that I need a little bit of extra color and spice in my outfits. Ever since I was a wild teenager, I always had the same yearly clothing routine. During the winters I wore only black and during the summers I wore mostly bright colors. This was my way of expressing myself and my emotional association with the seasons.

Yet as I grow older, I find myself liking the winter more and more. I think of the cozy nights in front of the fireplace, the romantic Christmas markets of Europe, the warm sweet red wines and the fresh walks outside in the cold crisp air. With this new found love for the cold, I slowly realize that it doesn’t have to be all about the black colors for me anymore. This year I will introduce more bright colors and funky cuts to my wardrobe. Gone are the drabby wide cut blacks and browns, and hello to my bright tight winter silhouettes.

I am happy to feature two of my favorite outfits from MCM this week. I visited the stylish Alesja Zuber of MCM for this occasion. For those who know my love for leather jackets, I absolutely had to have the classic tight black leather. I really like the silver hardware elements on it – the 2 vertical zippers on the front and attached leather belt with buckle on the bottom. This jacket takes the term “biker chick” to a new level and even manages to throw in a 3rd word to the mix: Chic Biker Chick! In my opinion this classic MCM leather jacket has the perfect mix of posh and bad-ass. What’s amazing about the jacket is that the shoulders are slightly padded and since the belt buckle can be closed tightly, this makes every body type look very slim at the waistline.

I combined the leather jacket with the special edition backpack – with the art of my friend Stefan Strumbel on it. His famous cuckoo clock decorates the front of the bag. Even Karl Lagerfeld owns one of Stefan’s famous cuckoo clocks. This one says “Heimat Loves You!” in neon on the front. I love how the neon colors and art piece decorated the bag to make it look so edgy and unique. Perfect as a splash of wild color to clash the winter gray sky!

I was very pleased to find out that MCM now offers its customers a well-fitted, warm winter coat with luxurious fur trim on the shoulders. It’s a very unique coat – which almost reminds me of a city version of Snow White. I combined it with a new arrival gray fur bag with an elegant chain to wear on one shoulder. The bag has beautiful details of pearls on it. It can also be worn across the front for the casual-chic look. And staying true to my winter color attack, I topped the look off with a bright purple MCM scarf mixed of wool and silk. I love the way this scarf looks and feel – it shimmers slightly in the light. I would wear the MCM scarf with jeans like I did on the photo, with a little black dress or even a long evening gown. It comes in many lovely colors. My favorite is definitely this purple one.

Today was a really fun and special day. I got to play dress up at MCM and swim in an ocean full of beautiful accessories. I have to admit that the MCM brand has really come a long way. They managed to stay on top of the trends offering their clients their famous heritage bags, yet also constantly coming up with new and exciting designs to freshen up their look – like the sought after backpacks, sneakers, scarves, etc. I can truly say: MCM, I am a fan now!
