Heritage and Tradition.

When I think of Burberry, these are two words that come to mind. In my opinion, Burberry is one of those few brands that will always hold its high place in the fashion world, representing this strong connection to the past, present and future. In other words, Burberry is so classy that it will never go out of style!

It all began in 1856. Founded by 21 year-old Thomas Burberry in Basingstoke, England, the brand was beloved for its waterproof outdoor specialty. Mr. Burberry invented the gabardine – which is the water-resistant fabric that his Internationally beloved trench coats are made out of.

I’m obsessed with it – not only is Burberry the king of the tartan pattern, but it’s also a super versatile brand that can be combined and worn in an endless variation of styles.

I decided to walk a bit on the wild side this lovely spring afternoon – by wearing the chosen Burberry pieces with my favorite punk-influenced ripped jeans shorts and 12cm high-heeled boots. I’m a big fan of combining the wild rock black, slightly gothic look with a conservative chic flair. A strange combination, I know, but unique and very edgy. Aren’t we all born to be a bit wild?

Summer 2016 is almost here and with it comes the overwhelming urge to wear a splash of color. I personally love pattern clashing, like I did with the two different Burberry tartan colors – red and beige. Who says what is wrong or right? My advice is never to follow trends and simply invent your own individual look that makes you feel special.

We all have our own vixen, princess, queen, rock star, shy girl, dare devil, intellectual woman, femme fatale, girl-next-door, mother, child and angel living inside of us. My favorite thing to do is wear a completely different look as often as I can, which satisfies each individual facet of my character. Changing your look like a chameleon is not a bad thing at all – it allows you to discover yourself and see what feels right on the inside and outside.

Another super cool look for the Burberry blouse would be with tight black leather leggings, a blue jeans or black a-line skirt with a belt at the waist, or the classical beige riding pants. This look can be worn with pumps or flat biker / riding boots. Topped off with a proper hat and thin skin-tight gloves.

For me, fashion is a statement about how I feel at that very moment when I put my outfit on. Thomas Burberry started a legend back then that gave us a chance to scream our feelings out loud – in style and elegance.

Have fun with your clothing and self-expression.

Be free. Be wild. Be brave. Be yourself.

Hugs,

Gali

My Burberry pieces for this shooting are: yellow rain coat, bright blue short wool duffle jacket, men’s XXL shirt – which I wore with a thin black belt, a vintage bag and matching scarf.

Outfit of the Day special feature: Belstaff

Outfit of the Day special feature: Belstaff 800 1200 Galia Brener

It seems like 2016 has started off faster than the speed of light! It’s already February, which means that spring is coming in only one month! Just thinking about the cherry blossoms coming out in Japan in a few months brings a flash of happiness to my heart. So my dear fashionistas, spring is almost here and with spring we have a new wave of style and inspiring colors and fabrics.

This new and exciting monkey year has already inspired me to reach deep into my closet and bring out the fabulous maxi dresses! Ever since I was at the Tbilisi Fashion Week last year and saw the amazing Asian-inspired creations, I have been in love with the long and flowing cuts. It’s the ageless face of the super feminine look!

Yet since we are actually in February, the question that comes to mind is, what do we wear on top of these long and flowing maxi dresses? It’s still bloody cold outside, yet we want to look and feel like a spring blossom! I have always had a passion for rock chic, so for me, what I love most is combining the ultra feminine with a bold leather statement! And that means, topping off the dresses with beautiful tight leather jacket that fits the body like a second skin! And who is better at leather jackets than Belstaff?

As I was trying on the jackets for our photo shoot, the lovely Belstaff store manager informed me that they are having a #LOVEBELSTAFF special offer from the 8 – 14th of February. This offer is for lovers and especially Belstaff lovers! There are sweet presents and gifts for your lover during this special week. So of course I had to share this sweet information with you dear readers! This special offer is available this week in Frankfurt, Munich and Milan.

The cool thing about Belstaff is that their products are very versatile. Not only can you wear your favorite jacket when riding your bike, but you can also combine it with your glamorous maxi dresses – for that Laissez-faire kind of look! In the photos below, you can see how I combined my favorite Religion dress with two different Belstaff jackets. The Sidney jacket gives the dress a more sleek and sophisticated look, while the Bellamy jacket with the integrated belt buckle gives it a more “Hippy-chic-Ibiza-on-a-motorcycle” kind of feeling! Both looks are adaptable enough to wear for a nice lunch during a spring day, as a cocktail party look or even to a fancy evening event.

In the photo shooting, you see how I combined both looks with the Belstaff Avaline bag, which is big enough to carry our thousand things inside, which we women love to carry so much!

I always enjoy going into the Belstaff store and looking around at everything they have, especially the nice accessories that they offer in their collection. Let’s not forget that Valentine’s Day is coming soon – which happens to be one of my favorite times of the year. The perfect way to say I love you with a nice Belstaff cashmere scarf, wallet, handbag or a sexy leather jacket!

So my dears, feel bold and daring to combine your beautiful flowing dresses with tight leather jackets to make that unforgettable appearance!

I wish you all a happy, loving and healthy Valentine’s Day!

Hugs,

Gali

Over-the-knee boots: Yes, no or maybe?

Over-the-knee boots: Yes, no or maybe? 1200 1600 Galia Brener

If you asked me some years back what I thought about this edgy type of boot, I would answer you with a quick and definite “No way!”

I always identified over-the-knee boots with the Pretty Woman movie – Julia Robert’s infamous working the street outfit, and pulling Richard Gere into her sensual spider web. In other words, I never thought that I could wear such a boot on the streets of old school and classy Europe. Over time I watched carefully as the trend grew and realized that more and more women are jumping onto the over-the-knee boot bandwagon. Slowly these boots were coming out of their red light district image, and making their way into posh offices around the world.

An interesting fact according to Wikipedia is that, “Over-the-knee boots first became popular as riding boots for men in the 15th century, when extra protection was required for the legs when on horseback.” So ladies, these boots are almost as old as the oldest profession in the world.

Pierre Cardin brought the boots into fashion again in 1968, featuring them in his futuristic couture collection. They also made a reappearance every decade after that!

Finally in 2010, Auntie Gali thought to herself, “If it’s good enough for the riders of the 15th century, then it’s good enough for us too!” So I went to try on my first over-the-knee boots. I remember buying my first pair in a small family-owned shop in Florence. I tried them on with a pair of tight skinny jeans and an oversized sweater. I was surprised at how cool they looked and bought them.

Upon my arrival at home a few weeks later, I couldn’t bring myself to wear them. I thought that perhaps I’m too old fashioned after all to wear these screaming boots. And so these sad Italian stallions were locked away in the closet for 6 years! Some might consider that shoe-abuse. And for some like myself, clothing and accessories never get thrown away. I lock them up and they wait patiently for their big day to make a comeback. To be able to see the light again. Such good and devoted shoes – never complained, not even once!

A few months ago, when cleaning the skeletons out of my closet, I found these boots again. I dusted them off tried them on. They fit like a glove. I decided that it was finally time to do the knees. The time has arrived for our relationship to begin. I was then given a lovely pair of Gucci boots as a gift, and added them to my over-the-knee collection.

I must admit that I can only wear this type of boot with a block or thick heel. I could never wear the stiletto version. I would feel like I’m auditioning for the main role in the second part of Pretty Woman. This is not my cup of Earl Gray tea. However, the block heels look pretty damn cool!

So if asked again, would I ever wear over-the-knee boots? My answer after 6 years would be: “Absolutely!” Yes I’m a turtle grandma sometimes and it took me “only” 6 years to jump onto the over-the-knee boot bandwagon. But I’m finally there and enjoying every minute of it!

Outfit ideas:

  1. Lampshading: Means wearing over-the-knee boots with an oversized sweater / dress.
  2. Classy: Little black dress with over-the-knee boots and a cropped tuxedo blazer.
  3. Casual: Skinny jeans with over-the-knee boots and your favorite rock t-shirt.
  4. Gali Style: Chanel-look tweed shorts, over-the-knee boots, turtleneck sweater and fringe scarf.

Have fun wearing your boots my darlings!!

Gali

Outfit of the Day: Color Splash on a Gray Day

Outfit of the Day: Color Splash on a Gray Day 900 1200 Galia Brener

Outfit: sweater: Zara, leggings: Topshop, boots: Bullboxer, vest: Furry, hat: Accessorize, bag: Burberry, gloves: vintage, necklace: Deloa

As I woke up today, I looked out the window and was not sure if it is still night or already morning! I jumped out of the bed and ran to my colors treasure chest and started to dig for a rainbow to brighten up my day! We have arrived at the gray season. Since there is quite a lack of snow this winter, we are only left with various shades of grays. However, do not let that stop you from bringing out your internal sunshine and happiness with bright colors!

A few weeks ago I was asked by the BILD newspaper what I think Frankfurt should improve on, and one of my answers were: That people should wear more colors here. So staying true to my own advice, I have decided to delve into my wardrobe to spice up a dark winter day.

Do not be afraid to mismatch colors! We do not live in a perfect world in a time where everything has to precisely match. We have arrived in a time to explore outside of the edges. Mix and match. Let your creativity and imagination run wild! I even go to the extent of wearing clashing patterns. I believe that 2016 is a perfect time to live boldly and explore your tastes and uniqueness!

Fashion goes in circles. It tends to repeat itself, just like the natural cycles of life. Therefore, bring out the vintage, like I did with the gloves, and combine it with something completely crazy and out of the ordinary. Have no fear to go the extra mile and wear something different. I would suggest to never try to conform and always have your unique touch in everything that you do and wear. Dare to show your passion, desire and make yourself happy!
