Glamour in our City – The Sportpresseball is coming soon!

Glamour in our City – The Sportpresseball is coming soon! 960 720 Galia Brener

Frankfurt is a very special city. I am not just saying that because I gave my heart away to this little cosmopolitan gem long ago. I have always compared Frankfurt to a diamond in the rough. It might look a bit tough from the outside, but once you have penetrated the hard layers, there is a bright and unmistakable shine, which no other city has. A unique glow that is distinctive only to our little treasure.

Our city is highlighted with skyscrapers, which look like a string of glowing pearls hypnotizing the night sky. My absolute favorite part of the city is our very own Alte Oper, where the magic happens. This grandiose building has seen many cultural happenings in its time and therefore is the perfect location for the glamorous Sportpresseball. The excitement begins already in the summer, when the ladies start looking for breathtaking ball dresses. There is an unspoken feeling of thrill – a rush – of who will be the fairest one of all? There are many mirrors, mirrors on the wall – at this enchanting ball of all!

The Sportpresseball takes place in November of each year, always bringing new surprises. This year the prestigious Pegasos award is given to Reinhold Messner, for being the “Legend of Sport” with his unparalleled mountain climbing achievements. Germany’s beloved dancer, Motsi Mabuse will grace the dance floor with her magnificent skills and open the show with a special performance with her husband. The long awaited surprise has been finally revealed! When the clock strikes midnight, the famous Anastacia will rock the stage with her top hits – bringing us the magical “Cinderella-at-the-Ball” effect – at its finest.

Being the true Frankfurt patriot that I am, I have attended the Sportpresseball every year since I moved from Toronto to Germany. Over the years, my dresses have ranged from a low cut turquoise Cavalli creation, to Frankfurt’s Ollendiek – evil queen design, and even an extravagant Asian dragon concoction. As a true fashion victim, I start planning my dress choices already at the beginning of the year. Yes I know, this sounds very dramatic, but you have to be at the Sportpresseball to understand why! There is so much glamour that evening: the elegant red carpet, many celebrities, VIPs, sport stars, politicians, fans, press and more – and everyone looks so damn fabulous. There is a hype as to who will wear what – and we Frankfurters always welcome a friendly fashion competition.

A few years ago we sat beside Lothar Matthäus, who explained the football game process to us ladies. I pretended I didn’t know much about the “game”, to see which juicy stories might be told throughout the evening. At the end I admitted to him that I am a die-hard Eintracht Frankfurt fan and you can imagine what his reaction was like. Absolutely priceless! I am very happy that Eintracht is the premium partner of the Sportpresseball this year, because all the guests will receive limited edition scarves with the ball and team logo. I will wear mine the entire year! #nurdiesge

What I also love about this ball are the fun entertainment activities. Selected companies display their brands and people have a chance to win many goodies. A few years ago, I went home with two bags filled with prizes. Somehow I got really lucky that year. We will see if “Lady Luck” will be at my side this year as well.

The metropress agency confirmed that there will be a tombola with prizes ranging from 1.000€ to 40.000€ – which is a fast Golf GTE. I don’t mind going home at the end of the night with this handsome VW. Have I already mentioned that all the drinks are included in the ticket price – champagne as well! There will also be a club lounge set up for the after party by Hugo’s at the top floor. I will bring my highest and lowest heels, because it will be a long and fun evening. I am really excited because in my opinion, this is among the finest that our city has to offer and this event attracts people from all over the world. This is our chance as Frankfurters to show the world what we are about – not only a top financial hub and cool creatives, but also glamour at its best!

If you are curious and want to see what’s happening live at the Sportpresseball on November 4th, take a look at my Instagram channel. I will be posting many live stories from the pre-ball VIP cocktail event at Sofitel, behind-the-scenes, red carpet, dinner, the presenters and winners, the amazing entertainment and shows, the after party and much more!

The anticipation grows… I’m looking forward to see you on November 4th my dears and let’s rock the city together!

Your Gali

Elizabeth Arden – NYC meets Frankfurt at the Beauty and the City event

Elizabeth Arden – NYC meets Frankfurt at the Beauty and the City event 1650 875 Galia Brener

On one of the last warm nights this summer, we were graced by a very special presence, from a city that many love. I am no stranger to this fabulous brand and have been using their 8 Hour cream ever since I could remember. Where I come from in Toronto, Elizabeth Arden is a beloved name in many households, so needless to say, I was thrilled when I saw the shiny invitation in my mailbox.

My good friend Jens Prewo picked me up and we made our way out into the warm evening. The event was being held at one of my favorite place in the city, the Palais Thurn und Taxis. As we approached the main entrance, we saw the yellow NYC Taxi parked in front of the massive double doors, with the Beauty and the City logo printed proudly on it. A NYC cab in the middle of Frankfurt am Main – what a beautiful sight!

The event was taking place upstairs, in the elegant rooms of the Palais. We were greeted with a cold glass of champagne and some very fine catering delicacies. Of course little miss piggy me had to try all the dishes, in order to get a proper feeling of the atmosphere and vibe. Inside the press was already lined up, waiting eagerly for the action to begin! And action there was. The event was being moderated by the beautiful Eva Padberg. She appeared in a glamorous off shoulder black gown. Later on my friend Sabrina Setlur arrived, along with other models, moderators and actors.

This fabulous event was supported by Frank Kuhlmann, owner of the Kuhlmann Beauty Consulting GmbH. He arrived dressed all in white, accompanied by his beautiful girlfriend Nina Isabell Knop also completely in white. I thought that was a super cool idea, because everyone else was dressed in black – like at a typical NYC party.

I couldn’t help but run around the event, trying out the lovely new products and rubbing every cream on my face and hands – Troublemaker Gali at her best. I was extremely impressed with the small Ceramide Restoring Serum capsules, which work best when applied onto the face and neck. I knew that I had to get this product asap. I was impressed to see how many women are using Elizabeth Arden in Germany!

Throughout the evening, a wonderful band was playing all of the classic and favorite New York songs. It was a very lively atmosphere and people were talking and dancing. Later on we went downstairs with the girls and some cool photos were taken of us in front of the yellow cab. I found it very amusing to mix the two worlds, because I always felt that Frankfurt can be compared to a little mini tiny New York, therefore it was a perfect fit

After some nice hours of amusement, friends, drinks, food, glamour, media and beauty, it was time to slowly make my way back home. I was given a large gift bag with my name on it at the reception downstairs. I noticed it was quite heavy and that meant some nice things to try out at home. Little did I know that Christmas would come early this year. The bag was filled with the best Elizabeth Arden products, including the serum that I wanted to try so much. Lucky lady karma was with me tonight.

I wanted stay and dance longer with my friends, but my killer heels wouldn’t allow me this pleasure. The feet ruled the girl, and they forced me to walk back home on the yellow brick road towards the Commerzbank Tower. I never cease to be amazed at how truly wonderful our little Mainhatten is.

*** Win an exclusive Elizabeth Arden gift bag with 4 of my favorite products: Skin Illuminating Retexturizing Pads, Skin Illuminating Brightening Day Serum With Advanced MIXConcentrate™, Eight Hour® Cream Skin Protectant in der Limited Edition I LOVE Eight Hour® and last but not least, the Ceramide Capsules Daily Youth Restoring Serum! Journal Frankfurt Summer Fest 2016 on the MS Catwalk

Journal Frankfurt Summer Fest 2016 on the MS Catwalk 1600 875 Galia Brener

This year the traditional and beloved Journal Frankfurt Summer Fest was taking place “on” a very special location. I haven’t been there since summer 2012 and was definitely thrilled to be back there again!

My good friend Jens Prewo picked me up from home, smiling as I came down in my extravagant long red dress. My motto has always been the same, “Better overdressed than underdressed.” The sun was shining and I was in very good spirits. I was happy to see colleagues that I have I haven’t seen in a while and meet new people from our city.

As we arrived at the Nizza restaurant, we saw the MS Catwalk boat docked directly at the main riverside, floating gracefully in her grandeur. Looking at the boat from ashore, a few memories rushed into my mind. Memories that are very special to me, and ones that I will never forget. Many guests have already arrived and the upper deck was filled with excited people and loud music. The party was in full swing.

Jens and I made our way onto the boat, our happiness rising with every step towards the top. The upper deck was filled with delights. A handsome young man offered us a sparkling wine, and the Journal crew was wearing sailor hats, which created the perfect mood for a perfect party! I was not the only one that made an effort with my outfit. Many people were dressed beautifully – men in sharp suits and ladies in elegant dressed.

As the boat started to sail, the energy was multiplying like electricity on the deck. The talk and laughter of the guests became louder and the music was beating harder. I looked up at our beautiful skyline and knew that I was home. This thought made me very happy.

I saw many people I knew and also met some new ones, such as the Journal business partners, some local celebrities, politicians, and the list goes on and on. It seemed like everyone had a shiny glass in their hand and a big smile on their face – definitely the sign of a very successful event!

After a while, we walked down to a deck below us and were welcomed by a delicious smell. Of course we followed the tantalizing aroma were greeted by a lovely chef, eager and happy to tell us about his delectable creations. I tried all the different dishes and was very impressed. From exotic fish, to various meats, fresh vegetables, artistic looking desserts and more! It was a fest for the taste buds and a very lovely experience for a gourmet like myself. Jens and I shared our table with new people that we just met, and were happy to talk about Italy, wines, pasta, cheese and… someone’s rice balls.

When the dinner was over, we made a little tour around the beautiful MS Catwalk, which is designed by Porsche. The lowest deck has an LED bar, with a big dance floor and a DJ area set up across. This is a perfect place to dance and have fun, even if it gets a bit chilly outside.

Back at the upper deck, the music was making the boat vibrate, and the feeling of floating smoothly on the main was unforgettable. Many photos were taken, which I am sure will be seen in the Journal Frankfurt magazine very soon. After the hours melted away, the boat was docked again. Nobody wanted to leave because the evening was so fabulous!

Eventually I left the sophisticated MS Catwalk, smiling to myself about how much has changed in my life since I was last on it. I walked towards the Nizza steps, and looked back at the water and the happy people dancing on the upper deck. Instantly I knew that everything is ok. Everything is happening as it should. Life has a way of working out for the best and fate always does her work – what’s meant to be will always happen. I walked up the stairs with an easy and light heart.

Thank you Journal Frankfurt for this wonderful evening!
